Do You Clean Off Your Plate If No One Else Has?

Posted By sivlam on Feb 4, 2010 at 12:05AM

I recently met up with two friends from work for Sunday brunch. We ate at a little place where they serve the best french toast. I couldn't wait to indulge, but when I saw that both of them had stopped eating halfway through their meals, I stopped too. I don't know why because I definitely wanted to finish my french toast and eat what I had paid for.

Later that day, I pored over references on dining etiquette. I learned that it is acceptable to leave some food on one side of your plate if you feel full. Other resources said to refrain from leaving your dish so clean that it looks as if you haven't eaten in days. What do you think?

A Healthy Heart for Valentine's Day

Posted By sivlam on Feb 4, 2010 at 12:03AM

While Valentine's Day may be a day for looking after your sweetheart, it's nice to think about your own heart too. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States. This Valentine's Day, show your own heart some love. Trade in those sugar-coated treats for these healthy options:

  • Reach for fruit. Sliced apples, mandarin oranges, blueberries or bananas can satisfy that sweet tooth.
  • Snack on nuts. Almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts are rich in fiber which help to lower your cholesterol.
  • Choose a glass of red wine over a fruity mixed drink. Research shows that the antioxidants in red wine can reduce your risk of heart disease.

Trend Alert: Turquoise Accents

Posted By sivlam on Feb 4, 2010 at 12:02AM

At the beginning of this year, Pantone announced that turquoise is the Color of the Year for 2010. This color is the perfect choice for ringing in the new decade. An inviting and luminous hue, turquoise inspires daydreams of lush getaways.

Strategically placing turquoise accessories around your pad can transform it from a regular home to a tranquil oasis. To create a calming space, throw some accent pillows on your bed or sofa. Pick up turquoise flatware for the dining room to enhance your meals. Trim your windows with turquoise drapes to add color to any room. These small changes will instantly add a tropical flare to your abode.

Check out more turquoise accents below.

"Well, why would I give you permission? I mean, who, who gives their spouse permission to go see their lover?"

— South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford explains to Barbara Walters on 20/20 how her husband, Gov. Mark Sanford, wanted her permission to visit his lover in Argentina. She found it so morally offensive that her husband could ask such a thing.
